If anyone knows me, I am NOT the one to eat healthy or refrain from eating anything fattening. I make shake shack a bi-monthly desination, I go for a milkshake everyday during the summer, and I eat coldstone icecream like every other day (since there is one right by campus)! The point is, I always found it annoying when people would restrict themselves on what they want to eat in order to stay in shape. I never wanted to be limited by such constraints and to not be able to satisfy my cravings.
HOWEVER, I've been feeling really sluggish and legarthic no matter how much I sleep and how much coffee I get. I also gained a few pounds from the summer. I'm pretty sure this is the result of my unhealthy eating. I've also been excercising less, skipping the daily cardio I used to do. I also think that the unhealthy eating has worsened my complexion and my skin.
After today's lunch, I feel pretty grossed out by oily, unhealthy, and fatty food, and therefore, will try to eat healthier from today. I've done it before, and it's really not that hard. The hardest part is starting it, because once you start eating healthier, you will no longer crave junk food as your body gets used to it. I'll keep you updated on the progress, but here's the guidelines for my healthy eating.
- Stay away from processed food, the closer it is to its original form, the better. i.e. an apple is better than apple juice
- Stay away from sugar. Sugar is addicting. Like I said earlier, over the summer, I need to have milkshakes everyday once I start having it. But, if I steer clear, I won't crave it as much. I also need to stop using 15 packs of sugar in my coffee.
- Like I said in my other blog entry, drink water.
- Don't OD on carbs. Carbs are fine, because it makes me feel satisfied/full and without it, I will just keep on eating. That said, I still have a tendency to OD on carbs.
- Stay away from street food. The way they prepare the food is pretty disgusting. The two recent times I've had it, it made me feel kind of sick and I couldn't finish it. (the chicken & rice cart, and this Jamaican cart on 48th and Park)
